Picasso’s Zen Quotes

“The world today doesn’t make sense, so why should I paint pictures that do?”

“To finish a work?  To finish a picture?  What nonsense!  To finish it means to be through with it, to kill it, to rid it of its soul, to give it its final blow – the coup de grace – for the painter as well as for the picture.”

“The chief enemy of creativity is ‘good’ sense.”

“One does a whole painting for one peach and people think just the opposite – that particular peach is but a detail.”

“The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.”

Meditation Assignment:

  1. Grab pillow.
  2. Sit or lay.
  3. Relax.
  4. Regulate breathing.
  5. Focus:  I think the following Picasso quotes are not only wise quotes about art, but about life and the inherent Zen therein.  It’s a bit of a stretch to think of it in terms of Zen, but it’s there (in a ‘cubist’ – taken apart – sort of way.)   Take the quotes apart and think of them in terms of the symbology of your life…
