Zen Meditation: The Final Frontier


Obviously, I am a little obsessed with matters of Sci Fi.  My whole blog premise is a metaphor based in Sci Fi lore.   I believe that the exploration and mythologies surrounding the vastness, potential, and promise of space are completely intertwined within my Buddhist Nature.  As humans we are vast and our potential is huge, but untapped.  We too envision “what we could be” if only we could realize the promise of our “collective humanity.”

I grew up pondering the inspirational message from the beginning of TOS Star Trek and for me it has morphed into so much more – the promise of human evolution.

Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.

I hear the words, but my mind imagines so much more than the simple premise it proposes.

What if…

… Inner Space was our final frontier and our voyages were adventures / experiences in the Buddhist Nature.  Imagine how our world and interactions with other life forms and civilizations would be if we looked into their eyes, hearts, and souls and saw their (our own actually) Buddhist Nature.  It would truly be an exciting adventure and a place that we have not been before.  That would be BOLD!!

Meditation Assignment:

  1. Grab pillow.
  2. Sit or lay.
  3. Relax.
  4. Regulate breathing.
  5. Focus:  On the above thoughts.  Imagine the premise however you will and make it your own.
  6. For a guided exercise:  Some of my favorite and most relaxing meditations are when I am flying through space into and past nebulas and star births, etc.  I am lithe and bendy, almost without bones.  I implore my mind, in real life, to be the same… open to the possibilities…
